Real Time Data from the Ship (when in port)

Want to know what the conditions are in Newport, Oregon? If the ship is in port and the acquisition system is up, you can...

Finger the Ship

This does a "finger -l ship@oldman.hmsc.orst.edu" to get the latest data available from XMIDAS. Currently, this is only available when the ship is in port. If you see that the date/time is old, then our acquisition system is probably turned off. If you get no responce, that is because the ship is not in port and/or disconnected from the net. Some day you may get this info even when the ship is at sea.

As an alternative, you might want to get the Coastal Marine Forecast from the UIUC Weather Machine.
