The College of Oceanographic and Atmospheric Sciences maintains a pool of NSF-supported
shared-use equipment which is available to all WECOMA users. A complete list, in the form
of a check-off equipment request will be sent to all Chief Scientists requesting WECOMA ship
time. These forms are usually sent out three to nine months before a cruise, and should be
returned as far in advance as possible, to insure equipment availability. Scheduling is on
a "first-come, first-served" basis.
All common use items have use charges associated with them. All users are required to pay
charges covering consumables. In addition, projects sponsored by sources other than NSF are
required to pay additional technician costs for preparation and staging. Scheduling of
shred-use euqipment is done through the
Marine Technician Group.
Chief Scientists receive a preliminary budget for approval well before the cruise. Users of
common-use equipment are invoiced following the cruise for actual usage and costs.
Prospective ship users proposing WECOMA ship time are encouraged to contact the Marine
Technician for a rough estimate of costs to be included in their proposals.
Non-NSF users must agree to replace or repair equipment in the event of damage or loss.
