Shipboard Clothing and Personal Items

- Shoes
- Open-toed shoes or sandals are hazardous to the wearer
on board ship and should not be worn when working on deck. The recommended
minimum requirement on duty is a completely enclosed shoe (toe and heel) of
any material. Persons working on deck should consider safety shoes (reinforced
toe).
- In the Mess Hall at Meals
- The close proximity of persons eating
in the mess hall requires a high standard of neatness and cleanliness. Shoes
and shirts are required. Coveralls or clothes smelling strongly of fish,
chemicals, diesel oil, etc.; dirty or ragged clothing; hats or caps; shower
shoes; open-toed sandals; or extremely abbreviated shorts are not acceptable.
- Laundry
- A washer and dryer plus laundry soap are available for
use on board. Individuals should bring an adequate supply of clothing,
however, since this equipment must be used by many people. A seven-day supply
is recommended for longer cruises.
- Rain Gear
- is provided. Individuals should provide their own
cold weather clothing. Boots are not provided. Work gloves and a cap are
recommended.
- Personal Items
- Individuals should provide shaving gear,
toothbrush and toothpaste, etc. Bed linen, soap and towels are provided on
board. Items for food preparation, such as coffeepots, hot plates, and so on,
are not permitted.
